Well, it looks like the Maya were wrong after all, and the world did not end on Dec. 21, 2012.

However, if it had, there were some people in France who were not only prepared, but were ready to go out in style.

It seems that a little village called Bugarach had acquired a reputation as the place to be in the event of an apocalypse.  For quite some time there have been rumours that the mountain was actually a UFO portal to another dimension (well, I think that’s how the story goes…).

In any event, as Dec. 21, 2012 approached, quite a frenzy built up, to the point that the villagers had to protect themselves from an expected hoard of  survivalists, UFO-ologists, and latter-day hippies.

But when the big day came….. nothing happened.  Well, not quite, because the local 2CV club decided they wanted to show up, to welcome the Aliens, and bid “Adieu” to the folks who intended to leave with them.

Check out this tongue-in-cheek event here on the blog “En Voiture”, by Matthieu Turel on the Le Parisien.fr site (sorry, it is only in French, but the photos are bilingual; another mainly photo site is here).
